Tips on Choosing Paint Colors for Bedrooms
The bedroom is truly your private sanctuary. It is a place where you more than anybody counts. It should be a place where you can let your hair down and truly be yourself. So while there are trends in bedroom design and paint colors for bedrooms, the most important thing is to have a bedroom where you can truly relax and have a good sleep whenever you choose.
Making the Bedroom Seem Smaller or Larger
Many people today live in limited spaces. That is why you should know how to make your bedroom seem bigger. Even if you cannot actually expand its size, providing an illusion of space by making the right choices in paint colors for bedrooms is possible. For instance, instead of painting your bedroom red you can instead choose colors like blue, green and purple. Using any of these colors gives you an illusion that the walls are still farther from you. That’s because lighter shades tend to reflect light better than darker tones. If you finish this with eggshell or satin finish, your bedroom would even seem bigger. Of course, if you have a big house and a big room with high walls you might want to get the opposite effect. You would prefer using darker shades so your walls would appear to be nearer to you. Warm colors generally seem they’re coming towards you. Your bedroom would appear smaller so it would seem cozy and homier to you.
Evoking Certain Emotions and Feelings
Choosing cool paint colors for bedrooms also give another benefit to you. For instance, light blue is said to be associated to the sky and the ocean. Greens make you think of trees as well. So, cool colors really evoke a calm and serene atmosphere. This would make your bedroom more relaxing and more conducive for a soothing sleep. The idea of more space and less clutter in the bedroom, of course, helps a great deal as well. Nevertheless, there could be instances when you would prefer to make your room seem darker. For instance if your work demands odd hours, you would be sleeping during the day so to get the most relaxing sleep you would need the least light to come into the room.
Choosing What You Want
Most people would want their favorite color present in the bedroom. Well, even if cool paint colors for bedrooms are suggested you can still incorporate red if that’s what you want. But you can do it through the accessories in the bedroom instead. You can have bed sheets with red prints in them, for example. If it’s an air of romance you want, this would certainly bring forth the same effect. You could even paint one side red to emphasize the effect. If you want to create an illusion of height though, you can paint the back wall of your platform bed black or charcoal. The contrast of the dark color and the height of the bed would definitely create a nice focal point for your room. To maintain a good lighting though, you might want to paint the rest of the walls with neutral colors.
